Japan Shotokan Karate (JSK) Renmei India, is Indian Chapter of Japan Shotokan Karate. Shotokan (松濤館 Shōtōkan) is a style of karate, developed from various martial arts by Gichin Funakoshi (1868–1957) and his son Gigo (Yoshitaka) Funakoshi (1906–1945). Gichin was born in Okinawa and is widely credited with popularizing "karate do" through a series of public demonstrations, and by promoting the development of university karate clubs, including those at Keio, Waseda, Hitotsubashi (Shodai), Takushoku, Chuo, Gakushuin, and Hosei.

He is The Founder Chief Instructor of Japan Shotokan Karate Renmei India, Founded in 1991. He in not limited only to teach Karate, it extends from participation in tournaments, judjing and refereeing.
Our Association id also providing male/female blackbelt instructors who are the winners of National/International champions. He have also handling karete classes for school and collage students.

Philosophy

At the JSK, we put immense focus on the proper form and balance of each kihon, or basic technique. Through extensive training, our instructors have rigorously, scientifically analyzed and separated out each individual movement in each individual kata, and developed an unrivalled spectrum of kihon techniques. Using these special kihon, we have refined the kata to be more applicable in kumite.

Characteristics

Shotokan was the name of the first official dojo built by Gichin Funakoshi, in 1936 at Mejiro, and destroyed in 1945 as a result of an allied bombing. Shoto (松濤 Shōtō), meaning "pine-waves" (the movement of pine needles when the wind blows through them), was Funakoshi's pen-name, which he used in his poetic and philosophical writings and messages to his students.

Features

JSK has remained essentially unchanged throughout its history. Each student learns each technique and tradition in its original and most powerful form. As a result, the JSK produces some of the strongest and most skillful karate-ka in the world. There are a number of practical factors that make JSK different from other karate traditions.

Kata

Several Shotokan groups have introduced kata from other styles into their training. The original Shotokan kata syllabus is introduced in Funakoshi's book Karate-do Kyohan, which is the Master Text of Shotokan karate. Dai Nihon Karate-do Shotokai is the official representative of Shotokan karate. Japan Shotokai's kata syllabus is the same as established in "Karate-do Kyohan" added Gigo Funakoshi's staff kata Matsukaze No Kon.

Kumite

Kumite, or sparring (lit. Meeting of hands), is the practical application of kihon and kata to real opponents. The formalities of kumite in Shotokan karate were first instituted by Masatoshi Nakayama wherein basic, intermediate, and advanced sparring techniques and rules were formalised.
Shotokan practitioners first learn how to apply the techniques taught in kata to hypothetical opponents by way of kata bunkai. Kata bunkai then matures into controlled kumite.

Famous practitioners

Former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida holds a 3rd dan black belt in Shotokan karate, while his brother Shinzo holds a 4th dan and their father Yoshizo Machida holds a 7th dan and was head of the Japan Karate Association's Brazilian branch.

Action movie star Jean-Claude Van Damme holds a 2nd dan black belt in Shotokan and used the style when he competed both in traditional and in full contact karate competitions in the 1970s and 1980s.

Michael Jai White has a 3rd dan in Shotokan, although he has long practiced other karate styles such as Kyokushin and Goju Ryu.
